About ICCM

Last year's conference in Washington DC drew well over 400 active participants to define the cutting edge of humanitarian technology. The theme for ICCM 2013 is “Humanitarian Technology Innovation In and Out of Africa.” It will highlight humanitarian innovation and technology in and outside Africa to cross-fertilize lessons learned and best practices. Related themes of ICCM 2013 thus include national and regional crisis mapping & early warning projects; grassroots, people-centered mapping and development; communicating with disaster affected communities; crowdsourcing crisis information; big data analytics; social computing and information forensics; and next-generation humanitarian technology solutions.

The Agenda

The agenda has been designed to meet the diverse interests of the participants, beginning with a Field Visit (offered both November 18 & 19) to local projects in Nairobi’s Eastlands. An Optional Technical Training Session (November 19) will follow at Nairobi’s famous iHub for those seeking to better understand the Crisis Mapper’s toolbox. The Opening Plenary (November 20) then officially launches the conference with the keynote address and crowd-pleasing Ignite Talks. This year all participants are welcome to stay for the two subsequent days that include the Roundtable Sessions (November 21) and Self Organized Sessions (November 22). Space will be limited for the Field Visits and Optional Technical Training Sessions, so be sure to register early. The full ICCM 2013 Agenda is available here.
